One of the first Hindi films in the genre of the multi star cast big budget production, the Burning Train combines the excitement of an action film with the emotional intensity of a human drama. The story revolves around 3 people. Vinod (Vinod Khanna), an engineer, who designs and builds the Super Express, a special train which will run the distance between Bombay and Delhi in record time, his best friend Ashok (Dharmendra), and Randhir (Danny), a bitter man who has lost both the girl he loves Sheetal (Parveen Babi) and the opportunity to design the train to Vinod and vows to take revenge. The Super Express is all set for its inaugural run. Inside the train is a miniature representation of society-passengers from all walks of life and a variety of characters, along with Vinod's wife Sheetal, Ashok's ex-girl friend Seema and a time bomb that Randhir has planted in the train to avenge his disappointments. The bomb goes off and train becomes a moving inferno. What infuses is a thrilling drama when the threat of a terrible death brings out best of human courage and daring and mends frayed bonds of love and affection. B.R.
