What is Bollywood?

Bollywood is the synthetic term (Bombay + Hollywood) popularly used for the Indian film industry center Mumbai (previously named Bombay). Unlike Hollywood there is no city named Bollywood. The term sometimes implies the whole of Indian film industry including Chennai film industry, though Chennai city (previously named Madras) is located in south India.

What is filmi music?

In essence, they are Indian (Bollywood) and Paksitani film soundtrack songs. From Mumbai to Manhattan, Bahrain to Birmingham, no other popular music has quite the same grip on fans that Indian movie music popularly known as filmi music. Filmi songs coming from Mumbai and Chennai (typically) are a distinct genre by itself. Travel anywhere in India, and you will be accompanied by the latest filmi hit songs and the evergreen old filmi songs of yesteryear coming out from the stereos in taxis and chaiwallah shops.

    Asha BhosleLata's sister almost equally talented. Muest hear her songs in the Indian film Umrao Jaan.

    Chitra is a particular favorite of A.R. Rahman. She is dominant in Bollywood as well as South Indian films.

    Sukhwinder Singh is one of the top singers and he is also a composer. Dil Se's "Chaiyya Chaiyya." is one oof the popular song sung by him.
